Cleaning the Temperature Module

DO NOT CLEAN

Do not douse or spray the temperature module. Power down the module. Unplug all cables. Spray a paper towel with alcohol or bleach and wipe down the module. Avoid electronics. Then, wipe down with a dry paper towel.

Do not clean the temperature display, power button, power input port, or the USB port of the temperature module.

Wipe with isopropyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol, or bleach

Wipe down the following parts of the temperature module with either isopropyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol, or bleach:

  • Aluminum blocks
  • Heating/cooling top plate
  • Module housing/body
  • Sheet metal housing
  • Insulators

Cleaning the Magnetic Module

DO NOT CLEAN

Do not douse or spray the magnetic module. Power down the module. Unplug all cables. Spray a paper towel with alcohol or bleach and wipe down the module. Avoid electronics. Then, wipe down with a dry paper towel.

Do not clean the power button, power input port, or the USB port of the magnetic module.

Wipe with isopropyl alcohol or ethyl alcohol

Wipe down the following parts of the magnetic module with either isopropyl alcohol or ethyl alcohol:

  • Magnet platform
  • Magnets

Wipe with isopropyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol, or bleach

Wipe down the following parts of the magnetic module with either isopropyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol, or bleach:

  • Module housing/body
  • Sheet metal sides and back

Cleaning the Thermocycler Module

DO NOT CLEAN

Do not douse or spray the thermocycler module. Power down the module. Unplug all cables. Spray a paper towel with alcohol or bleach and wipe down the module. Avoid electronics and the power supply. Then, wipe down with a dry paper towel.

Do not clean the temperature indicator LED strip, power button, power input port, or the USB port of the thermocycler module.

Wipe with isopropyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol, or bleach

Wipe down the following parts of the thermocycler module with either isopropyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol, or bleach:

  • PCR top plate
  • Lid heating plate
  • Module housing/body
  • Lid plastic housing
  • Sheet metal housing
  • Rubber seal

Disinfecting Thermocycler Module seals

The Thermocycler's seals are made of silicone. To clean them:

  1. Apply the seal to the lid.
  2. Wipe the seal with a 1:10 dilution of bleach. Let it dry.
  3. Wipe the seal with molecular biology grade water. Let it dry.

Thermocycler seals cannot be autoclaved. They should also be discarded after approximately 20 Thermocycler runs.
