Every pipette has a unique serial number. They look something like:

  • GEN1 example: P300MV152018061234

  • GEN2 example: P3HSV212019101204

How to find your pipette's serial number

If you have not physically attached the pipette to the OT-2:

You can find the serial number on the back side of the pipette.

If your pipette is connected to the OT-2:

You can find the serial number by clicking MANAGE PIPETTES in the Opentrons App.

The serial number is located below each attached pipette.

Use the serial number to see when your pipette was manufactured

Understanding your pipetteā€™s serial number is important because it provides information such as volume capacity, single- or multi-channel, version, the year/month it was manufactured, and the production model number. This is shown here below.

When there are issues with your pipettes, you may be asked by the Opentrons Support team for this serial number which will help us to identify the issue at hand and to be able to trace it back to the source.
