Overview

In order to start running the robot from outside the App using your own interpreter, you'll need to first connect your interpreter to it using API calls.

Using Jupyter Notebook

When you're in the Jupyter Notebook, you'll first want to install the Opentrons API. To do this, run the following line:

!pip install --upgrade opentrons

Once you have the Opentrons API installed, you will need to import packages from it:

from opentrons import robot, containers, instruments

To connect to the robot, you'll need to run this:

robot.connect(robot.get_serial_ports_list()[0])

To check whether or not you have successfully connected to the robot, run:

robot.is_connected()

If this returns True , your robot is connected successfully.

Next, you'll need to tell your interpreter where your calibration data is saved.
